(More customer reviews)Bought this for my elderly mother who has vision problems. The large, talking-buttons and talking caller-id sounded like just what she needed. When the package arrived, it took me over an hour to set it up properly -- and I consider myself quite technically proficient. The instructions were sparse and incomplete; synching the handset to the base was a frustrating and convoluted process that sometimes worked and most often did not -- a process that my mother could not possibly complete on her own. The phone issues mysterious beeping patterns (sounded like S-O-S in Morse code!) and flashing lights that are not well-explained if at all. These beeps repeat every 6 minutes until the "problem" is resolved. I was not able to clear the problem without removing the batteries. Tiny slide switches inside the phone control the talking functions. The talking-caller-id voice is loud and very tinny and announces only the phone-number that is calling, not the text associated with that number. Unfortunately, you cannot shut it off without also shutting off the talking-button function (to confirm that you are dialing the right number.) All in all, this phone held great promise but somehow fizzled in the final design and ergonomics department. Although I did not buy this phone on Amazon because it was out of stock, I ended up paying 2-way shipping and a 10% restocking fee (>$21) for this "free-shipping" product. Don't waste your money.
